Teachers & Administrators

When AVID does not involve the participation of a sufficient number of administrators and teacher leaders, it becomes a peripheral project, meeting the needs of a small group of students. However, when AVID is applied as a schoolwide program, its positive influence impacts all students. To ensure the success of schoolwide AVID implementation, the following beliefs must be present:
  • All students deserve the opportunity to experience academic rigor
  • Instruction impacts student achievement, so what happens in the classroom is fundamental to student academic success
  • Ongoing professional development improves and supports effective instruction
  • Teachers function as a collaborative learning community
  • Data drives school improvement decisions
  • All members of the school are accountable for its successes and failures
  • Support structures help students and teachers excel
  • The school culture sets college attendance as a possibility for all students
