Special Education

The Shasta County Office of Education operates Special Education services that the school districts in Shasta County are not able to provide for themselves.  We operate these specialized programs at the request of school districts but it is the Individualized Educational Plan team, comprised of the parent/guardian and school personnel primarily, who make decisions about the type of placement or services a student may be provided.

The programs we operate are as follows:

Early Intervention
  •  Special Education services for children age birth to 3.

Special Day Classes:

  • EXCEL Academy – Grades K-8
    Students have an IEP and require an intensive program to address emotional disabilities or serious behaviors that impede their learning.

  • Alta Mesa – Day Rehabilitation Special Day Classes – Grades K-8 
    Specialized program where students receive behavioral health services from Shasta County Mental Health in a Special Day Class setting.

  • Bonnyview Special Day Class for Deaf/Hard of Hearing Students – Grades Pre K– 2

Itinerant Services for Deaf/Hard of Hearing Students

  • Itinerant Teachers

  • Sign Language Interpreters

Itinerant Services for Visually Impaired Students

  •  Itinerant Teachers

  •  Braillist

  •  Orientation and Mobility Specialist

Specialized Support Staff

  • Nurses

  • Psychologists

  • Speech/Language Pathologists

  •  Autism Itinerant Teacher
