Governance Structure

Shasta County Board of Education

The Shasta County Board of Education—an elected board with seven (7) members representing all districts in Shasta County—is the Chartering Entity, and has ultimate approval of all school policies and procedures. The Shasta County Board of Education’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Approval of all school policies and procedures
Ratification of the school’s budget
Student discipline matters that require Board action
Technical assistance and guidance as a measure of its oversight responsibilities
Final decisions regarding the provisions of the charter
Reviewing and addressing audit exceptions or deficiencies

Board of Trustees

The Shasta Trades Academy Board of Directors shall be comprised on no more than six members and shall be appointed by the Shasta County Board of Education for a two-year term. Their responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Ensuring that the charter is followed and proposing amendments to the charter
Developing necessary school policies
Making recommendations to SCOE board regarding the school budget
Seeking funding opportunities for the charter school
Monitoring the admissions policies and procedures for the school
Seeking partnerships with the business community in order to strengthen the mission of the charter school

Site Council

The Shasta Trades Academy shall be comprised of no more than 9 members and shall serve a one-year term. The Site Council’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Developing a LEAP Plan and Single Site Plan
Reviewing and implementing student safety procedures
Providing input to the Board of Directors on the proposed budget
Creating and maintaining open, honest, and regular communication with the school’s Board of Directors
