1 Feb. 2007 - Shasta Trades Academy is working hard to get ready to open!

• Plans to open our new charter school, Shasta Trades Academy, are moving along quite well. The Board approved the charter at their January 24th meeting. We are working closely with the Builders' Exchange to retrofit two rooms in their facility. Staff is working hard to design the curriculum and you will see advertisements soon to begin signing up students.
  

History

Shasta Trades Academy will open its doors in September 2007 to about 50 students in grades 9 and 10. For planning and coordination of resources, STA garnered commitments from:

• Two local colleges
• regional Workforce Investment Board
• SMART Business Resource Center
• Shasta Builders’ Exchange
• Redding Chamber of Commerce
• Shasta-Trinity Regional Occupational Programs (ROP)

The program has two base sites:

• Shasta Builders’ Exchange

• with a facilities use agreement for access to classroom space and use of the ‘site’ shop.

• Shasta College Campus

• in a classroom facility owned by Shasta County Office of Education. This site will be used beginning in the 2008-2009 school year and will allow students the opportunity to co-enroll in Shasta College classes appropriate for their educational/vocational goals.
