The following districts share classified substitutes:  Anderson Union High School District, Bella Vista Elementary, Cascade Union Elementary, Castle Rock, Columbia Elementary, French Gulch-Whiskeytown, Gateway Unified, Grant Elementary, Junction Elementary, North Cow Creek Elementary,  Shasta-Trinity ROP, and Shasta Union High School District. 

All positions require fingerprint clearance which is coordinated by the Shasta County Office of Education's Human Resources department. The Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) fee of $74 (if applicable) is the applicant's responsibility. In addition, a T.B. test completed within the last 60 days is required.

All positions are hourly with the rate of pay varying by district.

• Paraeducator
  Provides classroom assistance to teachers and students as needed. Requirements: AA Degree or higher, 48 semester units or Paraprofessional test.
   
• Clerical
  Duties depend on district need. May include typing, computer, filing, phones, etc.
   
• Cook
  Assist in meal preparation and/or general cafeteria help.
   
• Custodian
  Duties as determined by district need.

All applicants must be a minimum of 18 years of age and a high school graduate or equivalent.
 

The Shasta County Office of Education offers a wide variety of substitute positions with flexible shifts Monday through Friday.

All positions require fingerprint clearance which is coordinated by the Shasta County Office of Education's Human Resources department. The Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) fee of $74 (if applicable) is the applicant's responsibility. In addition, a T.B. skin test completed within the last 60 days is required. All applicants must be a minimum of 18 years of age and a high school graduate or equivalent.

• ECS Instructional Assistant – Early Childhood  $17.07/hour
  Provides support to teacher and staff supervising children in programs with children ages 18 months – 5 years.  Most shifts are 3 ½ hours ranging from 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.  A good choice for anyone desiring a flexible schedule. 
  Requirements:  T.B. skin test, Fingerprint Clearance and Child Abuse Index $15.00 fee.

• Special Education Paraeducator  $17.94/hour 
  Provides support to teacher and staff assisting students with severe emotional disabilities, elementary through high school.  Shifts are 3 ½ or 6 hours ranging from 7:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.  A good choice for compassionate caregivers. 
  Requirements:  AA Degree or higher, Paraprofessional test, or 48 college semester units, T.B. skin test and Fingerprint Clearance.

• Independent Study Paraeducator  $17.94/hour
  Provides support to teacher and staff assisting students in our independent study programs.  Shifts are 6 hours from 8:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.
  Requirements:  AA Degree or higher, Paraprofessional test, or 48 college semester units, T.B. skin test and Fingerprint Clearance.

• Alternative Education Paraeducator  $17.94/hour
  Provides classroom assistance to teacher and students.  Serving probationary and incarcerated youth.  Shifts are generally 6 hours 8:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.  A good choice for those interested in working with “at risk” youth.
  Requirements:  AA Degree or higher, Paraprofessional test, or 48 college semester units, T.B. skin test and Fingerprint Clearance.

• Custodian  $17.07/hour
  Custodial duties as determined.
  Requirements:  T.B. skin test and Fingerprint Clearance.
   
• Site Liaison  $17.07/hour
  Assist in providing a safe and fun place for students during after school hours; homework assistance; activities including art, sports, drama and crafts.
  Requirements:  AA degree or higher, Paraprofessional test, or 48 college semester units (applicants who do not meet ESSA compliance requirement for this position will have 6 months from the date of employment to meet one of the above), T.B. skin test and Fingerprint Clearance.       

California public school employees and substitutes must be fingerprinted, and a criminal background clearance must be received by the employing school district and county office prior to new employees and substitutes rendering paid services.

If you have been fingerprinted for the Commission on Teacher Credentialing, have a Certificate of Clearance, or are enrolled in a credential program and have been fingerprinted for the Commission, you will still need to be fingerprinted by the district and/or county office of education. By law, employing agencies are not allowed to share fingerprint clearances with other employing agencies. Every employing agency has live scan authorization forms preprinted with their individual names and codes. These forms authorize the DOJ to forward clearance information for prospective employees or substitutes to that particular agency.

The Shasta County Office of Education maintains the county-wide substitute teacher list, Classified Consortium list for various substitute positions for participating districts. Once your completed application packet has been returned to the Credentials/Substitute Services office, you will be given a Live Scan form and instructions for fingerprinting.

Individuals who have been convicted of serious and/or violent crimes are precluded from being hired by California public school districts. Individuals who are awaiting trial for serious and/or violent crimes are also precluded from rendering service in California public schools until the matter has been legally concluded.

The Shasta County Office of Education maintains the county-wide substitute teacher list. You must be processed and cleared through our office to be added to this list. Once cleared, you will be eligible to substitute at any of the 24 public school districts in Shasta County.

We are currently accepting both fully Credentialed Teachers and applicants who have an Emergency 30-Day Substitute Permit.
