Summer Field Trips
What are Summer Planetarium Programs?
- Special programs that have been developed specifically for Summer programs (after school, school breaks, summer).
- Recreation and fun are our focus, though by their nature our programs are educational.
- We do it all - bring us the kids, then sit and enjoy the show!
- At 60-75 minutes long, our programs are designed to fit your schedule. The calendar lists each event at 90 minutes in case you prefer that length.
Cost
- The cost is $10 per person, excluding the paid teacher or leader.
- The field trip minimum is 25 people (students + chaperones) and the maximum is 65.
- If you have less than 25 people, you will need to register and pay for 25.
Program Descriptions
Best for Younger Children
Zula Patrol, Down to Earth is a newer animated feature that feels like a cartoon. This is the best program we offer for grades K-4.
Description: While on a routine fossil-hunting expedition, The Zula Patrol turns up evidence that the villainous Deliria Delight has been traveling back in time to Earth’s prehistoric past to illegally dump her company’s toxic trash. It’s up to the Zula Patrol to stop her!
Great for all Ages
Dinosaurs at Dusk is a romp through a dinosaur-filled jungle that will have all the kids amazed. While some of the words are too difficult for primary children, who doesn’t love dinosaurs?
Description: In this fast-paced fulldome show, a father and his teenage daughter Lucy travel back in time, navigating from continent to continent, exploring an Earth teeming with pterosaurs and the ancestors of modern-day birds — the feathered dinosaurs.
SETI, the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence works for K-8. The graphics will keep younger children interested though the language is directed at older students. We have found that some young children find the dramatic music during some parts to be scary.
Description: Are we alone in the universe? Will we make contact in our lifetimes? SETI explores all sides of these questions, from the planets we find around other stars to the feasibility of traveling to the stars—and what aliens might actually be like.
Older Kids (4th-8th) - Best Graphics
Faster than Light is popular and an incredible visual experience. The concepts are best for 4th grade and up.
Description: Faster than Light dazzles audiences with virtual rides aboard spacecraft of the future based on whole new technologies designed to achieve ultra-high speeds, using exotic next-generation rocket fuels, and breakthrough concepts in physics. The writers made this complex-sounding topic fun and enjoyable for people of all ages.
Older Kids (4th-8th) - Best Space
Oasis in Space tells the story of the solar system, visiting the planets, and including why Earth is an incredible watery oasis in space.
Description: Embark on a startling and beautiful voyage through our universe, Galaxy and Solar System in search of water - a key ingredient for life on Earth. Oasis in Space offers a new perspective on a substance of obvious importance to our planet.
