Social Emotional & Academic Learning (SEAL)
The Shasta County Office of Education believes social–emotional & academic learning (SEAL) is foundational to education and critical to any organization’s health, well-being, and climate/culture. Equitable conditions that promote SEAL skills development are crucial for academic success, engagement, and connected relationships. In addition, advancing equity and social justice through SEAL instruction—a practice known as transformative SEL—promotes key constructs of identity, curiosity, collaboration, and more. SCOE is creating pathways that help incorporate SEAL and transformative SEL into everyday practices, including professional learning opportunities and quarterly communities of practice. Curated tools and resources for supporting SEL implementation are also being made available.
Join our Social Emotional and Academic Learning Community of Practice, aimed at increasing and strengthening the quantity and quality of Social and Emotional Learning opportunities for students, educators, and staff through collective learning and sharing of research and evidenced-based promising practices.
Dates of upcoming Quarterly Community of Practice Meetings: 3/2/23, 6/1/23 from 3:00-4:30
