What is the EIP?

The EIP is a special education program for families of children birth to three years of age who have an identified disability or significant delays in their development.

The goal of the program is to provide families with the information and skills they need to help their children achieve their maximum potential through a coaching model during the family's daily activities.

The philosophy of the program is that intervention will lessen the impact of the disability on the child and family, as well as enhance the child’s overall development.

Who is Eligible?

Families of children birth to three years of age qualify for services if the child’s development is delayed, or at risk of delay, due to any of the following conditions:

• Impairment in vision, hearing or speech
• Orthopedic condition such as spina bifida or cerebral palsy
• Congenital syndrome such as Down Syndrome
• Seizure disorder or other chronic health problem
• Autism
• Mental retardation
• Emotional disturbance

Infants and toddlers without a specific diagnosis, who have significant delays in cognition, motor, speech and language, or social-emotional development, may also qualify for services.

How to Obtain Services

A parent or legal guardian may request an evaluation to determine eligibility for services by contacting the Early Intervention Program, Shasta County Office of Education, (530) 605-2541.

Any agency or concerned individual may refer a child with the informed consent of the parent or legal guardian.

The Early Intervention Program is a free service funded by the Shasta and Tehama County Offices of Education.
