Shasta County Mock Trial

The Shasta County Office of Education is proud to host the Mock Trial each spring. Check out this link to an infomative Google Slide!

Who: Shasta County High School Teams, each with a teacher-adviser and an attorney coach

What: Competition with a fictitious case designed by the Constitutional Rights Foundation and scored by attorneys; trials are

When:

  • Schools must register with the Shasta County Office of Education by September 1st
  • The case is released and case materials are sent to the county office in early September for distribution to participating school teams. 
  • The Shasta County competition is hosted by ShastaCOE in mid February (if there at least two teams); if there is only one team, that team goes on to the state competition in mid-March
  • The National High School Mock Trials Championship is held in May.

Where: The Shasta County competitions are held each year at the Redding City Hall or the Shasta County Courthouse.

Why: This program is a wonderful opportunity for high school students interested in the law, public speaking, dramatic arts, civics, and visual arts (courtroom drawing competition).
