What is Community Connect?

Supporting students, families, and schools throughout Shasta County

Sometimes, families need some extra support with the challenges they're facing. When that happens, we want to connect students and families with resources at the earliest possible opportunity. Any school can refer families to our Community Connect Case Coordinator, who partners with the family to connect them with the support they need to help students get back on track.

Support begins with the family
Every family needs support sometimes. Community Connect is here to make those connections. When students are in school, they're more likely to thrive and be happy, healthy young people. Community Connect helps families overcome barriers so they can be successful in school and in life. Services include individualized support based on each unique family. All services are confidential, voluntary, free, and are provided over the phone or in person. Services are provided to the parent/guardian, and students cannot access them without parental consent.

Connecting with community partners
Community Connect partners with Shasta County schools to support students by providing case management and connecting their families to community-based services. This can include physical health services, behavioral and mental health services, housing, food, utilities, transportation, and much more.

Referring a family to Community Connect
One referral to Community Connect links a student and their family to many resources. School staff continue to support the child, while Community Connect provides more helpers for that family. Schools can refer a student to Community Connect for attendance, behavior issues, housing instability, or if the family would like connections to resources outside the school's sphere of influence.

If the student is in immediate danger, call 9-1-1.

If the student is in crisis:
Crisis referral: 8:00am to 5:00pm, call 530.225.5252
After hours for children in child welfare, call 530.225.5144

This referral and the project's information sharing is FERPA compliant.
If you have questions or if you are a school who wishes to refer a family,
please contact Community Connect at communityconnect@shastacoe.org.
