Abby King - 2021 School Counselor of the Year

Abby King is a school counselor at Central Valley High School (CVHS).  Kyle Turner, CVHS Principal, described Abby as a consistent force of energy and innovation and a creative thinker who possesses the valuable skill of overcoming obstacles through inventive thoughts and strategies. Additionally, Abby is known to be a strong advocate for ALL students as she encourages them to engage with their school and prepare for post-secondary education and training.  Her advocacy for students to graduate college and career ready is demonstrated by CVHS’ impressive 75% “Prepared” status on the 2019 CA School Dashboard College Career Indicator (CCI) as compared to the state average of 44.1% “Prepared” students. 

Abby has been a Co Lead within the Reach Higher Shasta School Counseling Initiative since its inception and  is a valued thought partner by sharing her ideas and programs.  Abby has earned tremendous respect in the school counseling community for her leadership in implementing the American School Counseling Association's National Model including the Multi-Domain, Multi Tiered System of Supports in the delivery of school counseling services.
