Tara Schwerdt - 2020 School Counselor of the Year

West Valley High School, Anderson Union High School District

Tara represents the highest of standards as an educator, counselor, and professional.  Mrs. Schwerdt is not only a colleague, but a partner and vital resource in our process of continuous school improvement.

Blessed with Tara's arrival to our counseling department in the Fall of 2015, she has helped to reconstruct and nurture a model, award-winning counseling department.  With the counseling department as the integral cornerstone of our school, Tara has helped to create and implement our strategic plans for a counseling program that yields data-based decision making and social justice advocacy as core principles.  Having an intense passion and professionalism, Tara has demonstrated a tenacious work ethic, an unwavering commitment to student post-secondary opportunity and success, investment in data-driven, purposeful action and a constant desire to continue her path of professional learning.  Tara has dedication and drive for our collective vision to ensure that every student receives the opportunity and support in acquiring a great education.

Undeniably, Tara serves as the model of commitment, love, and persistence; not just as a counselor but as a person, for our school community and county.
