The Project SHARE Basketball Program started December 2016 and finished in February 2017.  Project SHARE After School Program continued the strong partnership with Anderson Parks and Recreation and had 14 teams that participated from Igo, Happy Valley Primary, Happy Valley Elementary, West Cottonwood, Anderson Middle School, Anderson Heights, and Meadow Lane.  Practices were held two or three times per week with games on Saturdays.  The combined effort of Project SHARE Staff and parent volunteers offered 150 students the opportunity to learn basketball skills, teamwork, and positive attitudes.  The teams had a basketball celebration culminating the league at their sites inviting parents for pizza and treats and honoring athletes with medals.  Coaches were also honored for their incredible support.  Next week Black Butte Elementary will participate in a basketball league provided by Project SHARE.  The children will learn basketball skills two days per week then play games on Fridays for six weeks.  The basketball program has provided opportunities for children to be physical and learn teamwork.  The 5th-6th grade athletes were connected with AAU coaches for spring if they want to continue building their skills for school basketball.
