Charter Schools
What is a Charter School?
Charter schools are public schools typically organized by a group of teachers, parents and community leaders or a community-based organization. Each is authorized by an existing local public school board, county board of education, or the State Board of Education. These unique public schools are encouraged to innovate while being held accountable for student achievement. Because they are public schools, they are:
- Open to all children;
- Do not charge tuition; and
- Do not have special entrance requirements.
The Shasta County Office of Education authorizes and provides oversight for the three charter schools: Chrysalis, Redding STEM Academy, and Northern Summit Academy.
